In our previous posts we have mentioned major fitness components: cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, and body composition. And you know now that you can hardly see brain fitness among other health related fitness components. The question remains: why? why do people treat physical fitness and brain fitness separately? Is it possible to gain great physical condition without using brain? – Well, may be it’s possible, but what would you say about the person who even doesn’t realize what’s happening to his/her body?
If you let your brain stay aside from your fitness activity you may lose it. Surely it doesn’t mean that you will go out of your mind, it’s different. Human brain is made in such a way that it has to work all the time (except when sleeping). Constant mental activity and trainings with the help of brain games make it not only keep its present form but also continue developing. As soon as these processes stop degradation begins.
Professor of Neuroscience and Anatomy at UC-Berkeley and one of the world’s foremost researchers on neuroplasticity Marian Cleeves Diamond thinks that a core component of brain exercise is challenge; passive observation is not enough. So, make fitness challenging for your body and for your brain.
