So many things in our life become clearer and more understandable when they are divided into parts and components. The same can be said about physical fitness. Generally accepted basic components of physical fitness are:

  • Cardio-respiratory (CR) endurance
  • Muscular strength
  • Muscular endurance
  • Flexibility
  • Body composition

All these components are completely health related and determined by our health condition. Cardiovascular and respiratory systems are responsible for efficient delivery in the body oxygen and nutrients needed for muscular activity and transportation of waste products from the cells.

Muscular strength directly depends on how often and how much you exercise, and what types of exercises you use.

Muscular endurance is related to muscular strength. The higher muscular strength you show and the more endurable cardio- respiratory system you have the stronger your muscles are.

Flexibility is the ability to move your joints or any group of joints through an entire, normal range of motion.

Body composition shows the percentage of muscles, fat, and bones in our body. In other words it shows what type of body we have and what components (muscles or fat) prevail in it.

The health related physical skills each contribute to a healthy quality of life, but it cannot be reached without an appropriate level of physical activity.
